Adopted into Peace

So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:7ESV

I still remember the moment I saw my daughter in person. We had shared phone calls, letters, gifts and pictures between Ohio and Haiti for six months. The anticipation was almost painful. Being able to see her face and hug her for the first time was beyond words. Instantly, the love I knew I had for her multiplied.

She fell asleep on our laps in the back of the truck, on a bumpy road, in a third world country. Amid chaos, she was at peace. We were in one of the most dangerous places in the world, yet she was at peace. She held on to her daddy’s hand and did not let go. This moment represented

everything we had longed for while we were waiting for the process of adoption to be complete. She knew she finally had a daddy that loved her so much that he would come to get her and save her from a life that could have gone in so many other negative directions. He was now her daddy.

This reminds me of the verse in Galatians 4:4 where we are reminded that when the time had come, God sent for his son to redeem us, and we would receive adoption as sons. God wants to give you a family where you belong and are at peace. You are at peace holding your Father’s hand.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Have I accepted the gift of adoption that the Lord has offered to me through His son?

  2. Have I shared this gift with the people I meet every day?

  3. How earnest are we to tell people about this gift of salvation?

Challenge:

Begin praying for one person that you know you will have a chance to share God with this week and take the step to talk about what Christ is doing in your life.
