Day 11: The help from the Holy Spirit!

Acts 1: 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

When reporters once asked world renowned evangelist Billy Graham what made his ministry so effective, he didn’t credit his preaching, planning, or even his tireless work ethic. Instead, he said: “The three most important things in ministry are: Prayer, the Holy Spirit, and more prayer.”

Though he spoke to over 200 million people across 185 countries, Graham never believed his words alone changed anyone. In fact, he often said he was just a “messenger boy.” What made the difference was that he leaned on the Spirit of God. He and his team bathed each crusade in prayer, asking for the Spirit to go before them and convict hearts. The results spoke for themselves: countless people from all walks of life gave their lives to Christ, not because of Graham’s persuasive skill, but because the Holy Spirit moved through simple faithfulness.

Jesus made it clear before He ascended: His disciples were not to rush out and try to change the world in their own strength. Instead, they were told to wait for the Spirit. Why? Because evangelism without the Holy Spirit is just words. But evangelism with the Spirit becomes life-changing power.

The Spirit’s role in witnessing is threefold:

1.      He empowers us.

The Spirit gives us courage and boldness we don’t naturally have. Peter, who once denied Christ, stood before thousands at Pentecost and proclaimed Jesus with confidence—because he was filled with the Spirit.

2.      He convicts hearts.

It is not your job to make someone believe. Only the Spirit can pierce hearts, convict of sin, and open eyes to truth (John 16:8). Your responsibility is to be faithful in sharing; the Spirit’s role is to bring transformation.

3.      He guides our words.

Have you ever shared your faith and later thought, “I don’t even know where those words came from”? That’s the Spirit! He not only gives us the words to say but also helps us discern the right moment and approach.

This truth should lift the weight off our shoulders. Witnessing is not about eloquence, personality, or debate skills. It’s about being surrendered to the Spirit and allowing Him to speak and move through us.

Today, before you begin your day, pray this simple prayer: “Holy Spirit, fill me. Use me today as Your witness. Give me courage, guide my steps, and prepare the hearts of those I encounter.”

Then, pay attention. Look for one conversation where you sense the Spirit nudging you to speak, ask a question, or simply show Christ’s love. The more we depend on Him, the more natural witnessing becomes. And one by one, the Lord will begin to add to His kingdom through the power of the Holy Spirit working in YOU!
